Ball bearings are most commonly used in small and medium sized pumps because of their high speed capability and low friction.The bearings of the horizontal process pump are most frequently oil bath lubricated. In some cases the bearings supporting the axial load are mounted in a bearing housing,separate from the pump frame, to allow adjustment of the impeller in the casing.In these cases, the adjustable housing is shimmed with the frame to ensure good bearing alignment.
